Malasia Airlines MH370
disappeared from the radar map the day before yesterday. This Boeing-777 plane
lost contact with the controller two hours after leaving Kuala Lumpur to
Beijing. It carried 239 people on board. 154 of them are Chinese, 3 of them are American. There
is no evidence showing what exactly happened till now.
I have been informed several persons I may know on board. I kept
checking any information I can get from global media websites in these two
days. I am grieving for those families' "lose" and praying for any
possibility that someone may survive.
The strange part is there is no reliable evidence from any source.
There is no clue where to locate the black box. Different kinds of rumors have
spread all over the world. I did a comparison between media of Malasia(Aircraft
maintenance country), China (destination country), U.S (Boeing manufacture
country).
Malasia:
Malasia Airlines: spokesperson delayed announcing the disappearance
incident five hours later, without rescue. It posts contact information in
English, it also posts the media statement in both English and Chinese.
Bernama- Malasia official news portal: Government will do its best
searching plane. It creates a whole column keep public update.
Malasia Kini: Different famous writer and expert draw map and route
to speculate the whole incident.Transportation and military officials write
articles asking people to stop believe rumors and wait patiently.
New Straits Times: As a country with large Islam and Buddhism
population, NST quotes many Islam religious leader's articles and prayers. On
the front page, every "MH370" was market clear red. The government
has announced improvement move for aircraft safety.Caregivers have assigned to Malaysian
families involved.
The Star: Information is not lively updated. Most information
target on officials, rescue teams and calming families.
Free Malasia Today: Q&A about public's different assumptions
and accusations.
China:
News and interviews are full of depressed emotion and
grieving.
Individual or family life of 154 people has been dug out for publicity.
Few extremists and sociopath announced "rich people" (what
they defined those innocent people on board) deserved to die. Internet users are
arguing the current situation in chaos.
There is a Chinese old saying:"Live in real person, die with
real bones." Praying and crying families are now becoming angry.
U.S:
Boeing: Just a simple sentence on its website showed Boeing has
sent out a technician to Malasia. Few employees stated on other websites: If
there is no evidence, Boeing will not responsible for the "crash".
Boeing's stock price going down.
Foxnews/ ABC News/ LA Times/ International Business Times: Raise
strong doubt about terrorists. The reason is two people hold passports have
been stolen and en route to two different countries.Meanwhile, these media did
not forget to mention how huge and flawless Boeing-777 is.
USA Today/ Forbes/ Huffinton Post:Have
a certain amount of information relate this incident to July 2013 Asiana
Airlines incident, which was also used Boeing-777.
It is too early to confirm anything yet, but right now, I can see
what are media different reactions. In my perspective, Malasia Airlines have
political relation with Malasia government; the Chinese are feeling vulnerable;
America is being influenced with terrorists cloud and Boeing PR department. Let
us pray they have chances to live. It does not matter religious conflict or
politic conspiracy.
This is a tragic and fascinating story. In the context of PR it is interesting to see how the lack of evidence at the moment creates an understandably speculative environment. When I first heard of the accident from American based media 'terrorism' was palpably felt in the context of the article. It makes me wonder what narrative will dominate the headlines if more information comes to light, and what information those likely to be held responsible are hoping comes forth. In a macabre way I bet Boeing hopes it was an act of terrorism, as its stock has suffered for years due to technological problems found in their new planes. Malaysia, must want it to be a manufacturing error, as they were responsible for security. If it was terrorism, and directed at Chinese officials, it will create a pressure filled environment for Chinese officials. It will be interesting to see who ends up taking accountability, and how.
